Opening from United States
A U.S. Social Security number or ITIN, a domestic residential address, and a government photo ID usually clear Kalshi KYC in one sitting. The exchange already treats you as a U.S. person, so the extra foreign-address questionnaire other nationalities see does not apply.
What United States pays with at home
ACH from a U.S. checking account is the cheapest common path and posts in one to three bank days. Debit is faster and often carries a card-network fee. PayPal and Venmo are convenience rails, not bank wires: they can fail if the linked funding source is a credit card. Domestic wires land same day when cut before the bank’s cutoff. Crypto via ZeroHash is optional, not required.
From USD in United States to USD
Contracts, fees, and cash-out are already in dollars. There is no FX conversion for a USD checking account. If you fund from a foreign-currency card while physically in the United States, the card issuer — not Kalshi — sets the USD amount.

Settlement clocks follow U.S. event schedules: Fed statements in ET, NFL kickoffs in ET or CT, CPI prints at 8:30 a.m. ET. You do not need to translate a local exchange calendar. Overnight crypto-style sessions do not exist; a contract expires when its documented event does.
Tax from United States — we will not pick a rate
Kalshi issues U.S. tax forms to U.S. persons when IRS thresholds are met (commonly a 1099 series). Event-contract profit and loss is still an unsettled classification fight in practitioner literature — do not assume futures 60/40 treatment. Keep every fill CSV and ask a CPA who has actually seen prediction-market 1099s. StartKalshi will not invent a rate.
