Is Kalshi available in Japan?
Yes. Residents of Japan can apply. Settlement is JPY converted into USD; Furikomi (bank transfer) is not a Kalshi checkout.
The FSA supervises Japanese banks, broker-dealers, and crypto exchanges. Kalshi is not an FSA-registered financial instruments business.

Opening from Japan
A Japanese My Number card or passport plus a jūminhyō-style address document usually clears identity. No JPX or TSE account is created. Kalshi will not speak Japanese in the official UI; keep your own translation of the contract resolution source.
What Japan pays with at home
Furikomi, convenience-store bills, PayPay, and J-Debit never post to Kalshi. Typical paths are a USD wire from a mega-bank’s foreign-currency desk or a Wise-style EMI, a Visa/Mastercard debit the issuer allows for overseas merchants, or ZeroHash crypto. Seven-Eleven payment slips are not a funding method.
From JPY in Japan to USD
USD/JPY is deep, but Japanese retail counters still add a posted TTS/TTB spread that is not the interbank mid. Sending yen and hoping Kalshi converts them will fail — the exchange only keeps dollars. Convert first, then remit.
Hours in Japan (Asia/Tokyo (JST))
Tokyo is 14 hours ahead of EST and 13 ahead of EDT. U.S. cash CPI at 8:30 a.m. ET is 21:30 or 22:30 JST — late evening, tradable. Sunday NFL kickoffs land Monday morning in Japan, which is the opposite of the European problem.
Tax from Japan — we will not pick a rate
Japan taxes worldwide income for residents. Whether DCM event P&L is miscellaneous income (zatsu) or something else is a question for a zeirishi, not a blog rate table. Withholding that applies to Japanese listed derivatives does not automatically attach to a U.S. DCM. Keep USD statements and yen conversion records.
